2017 Resolutions Check-In

With only four months left in the year, where do I stand on my original 2017 resolutions I created back in January? Let’s do a check-in and evaluate and see where I am.

1. 10,000 steps a day

One of my fitness goals this year pertained to how much walking I could accomplish in a day. While I haven’t been hitting 10,00 daily, I have been getting 10,00 steps about every couple of days, which is good enough for me. On average, I’ll walk about 7,000 steps a day at work or around the house. What sends me over is gong to the gym or extra hours out in the garden.

2. Lose five pounds per month

So by September, I should be down 45 pounds. While the goal sounded like a smart goal, weight wise, it actually wasn’t. Just plain wasn’t. I was slow to getting started on losing weight this year; it didn’t start until around April, when I joined Planet Fitness. Last month, I wrote a blog about my progress since joining a gym, (and other Fitness comments)..  Between April and August, I’ve lost ten pounds, and I am proud of the ten pounds I have lost. #WinnersDon’tWait

3. Emergency Fund

Being in debt is no fun. The beginning steps to working your way out of debt, is by having an emergency fund set up, minimum of $1,000. I’ve had even more financial downfalls this year, so I haven’t had any luck setting aside in my Emergency Fund. Which leads me to…

4. Debt Snowball

Being in debt is no fun. I’m about $65,000 in debt, so I had started paying off some of the lowest bills off first. I’ve managed to pay off some of the lower medical bills but I was hoping to at least have $1,000 paid off by now. Not so much. The reason why the past two resolutions haven’t been going so well is because of the increase of bills on my end.

5. Read 17 books this year

So far, I have completed seven books this year. Right now, I’m reading three books at once. One is Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. The other two are psychology books. The only month I’ll struggle with getting any reading done is in November, when I plan on participating in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) and the time for reading is decreased, and writing time is increased.

6. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Considering myself a environmentalist,  I have begun to increase my awareness on the impact I alone have on the planet. This started last year, when I began recycling whenever I could; I even began bringing in my reusable grocery bags. In 2016, I started shopping at Lush Cosmetics to impact how I shop for beauty products. Last year I wrote this article about living Eco- Friendly.

7. Visit the library more

This one is a hit and a miss. Now since I have WiFi at home, I don’t go out to the library as much. Back in June, I checked out audio book on CD. I think I had checked out a book or two throughout the Spring, but I can’t recall right now. Currently, me and my Grandmother are donating some of our used books we don’t want anymore to our library for them to use or sell in OKC’s annual book sale held at the State fairgrounds. It feels great to donate to the library!

8. Go out to the Park more

I don’t spend enough time in nature. Growing up on a ranch, I sue to spend time outside all the time, but now since I’m in the City, it’s the last thing on my mind. I would like to go camping around October this year, so maybe that’ll knock it off my resolution!

9. NaNoWriMo 2017

This won’t happen until November, but National Novel Writing Month will be here before we know it! My goal is always to reach the basic 50,000 words written within the month. Right now, I have been debating between being a NaNo “rebel” (by continuing on a recurring project) or being a “traditional NaNo” (Note: there’s another term for this, but I can’t think of the actual term) by working on a new project. If you haven’t ever participated in NaNoWriMo, you can sign up here!

I kept my resolutions (or goals, quite simply put) simple so I could attain them, and accomplish more in 2018! How are the goals you set in 2017 going? Don’t forget to comment, share, and follow me along this journey!
